Shopping with the National Trust in Grasmere
In a very quaint building opposite Grasmere Church you’ll find our National Trust gift shop, full of treats for you or a loved one. Every purchase you make will help to protect this wonderful landscape.
Church Stile is a Grade II listed building and one of the few 17th-century secular buildings still standing in Grasmere. During the 18th-Century it was an inn which occasionally housed William Wordsworth. Around 1840 it ceased to be an inn and subsequently became the home of Robert Hayes who had a market and nursery garden in the village – the humble beginnings of Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside. We bought Church stile in 1968.
