Our Grasmere shop

The front of the National Trust gift shop in Grasmere

A world away from the hustle and bustle of the high street sits our little shop in Grasmere, packed with treats and gifts. You’ll find items for the home and the garden, useful things for exploring the outdoors as well as local items and yearly products that offer a special memento of your trip to the Lakes. Every purchase you make will help to protect this wonderful landscape.

Gifts for those that love the outdoors

We’re stocked up with books, maps and guides to inspire those hardy walkers and fresh air go-getters, the early morning sunrise seekers and day time trekkers, the walking boot wearer who gets out whatever the weather, for every Lake District visitor and local, each fell climber, up-hill race timer, flask filler and picnic packer, and all the gentle strollers. Our Rangers’ Guide to Grasmere features five classic walking routes on Lakes and Fells.

Can’t decide?

National Trust gift cards are a perfect gift for friends and loved ones. From exploring over 500 special places, relaxing in a holiday cottage or at one of our Lake District campsites, to enjoying a spot of lunch or a shopping trip, there are many ways for them to get the most out of their gift card.

Please note: Gift cards can only be redeemed at National Trust shops, restaurants and admission points, used over the phone to book a holiday cottage or a pitch at one of our Lake District campsites. They can also be used when staying at the three Historic House Hotels. Unfortunately it’s not possible to use gift cards against purchases made in our online shop.

Thank you for shopping with us – every purchase made in our shop really does make a difference.

Church Stile is a Grade II listed building and one of the few 17th-century secular buildings still standing in Grasmere. During the 18th-Century it was an inn which occasionally housed William Wordsworth. Around 1840 it ceased to be an inn and subsequently became the home of Robert Hayes who had a market and nursery garden in the village – the humble beginnings of Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside. We bought Church stile in 1968.
