Things to do with the kids this October half-term
There are some haunted happenings at Allan Bank for all the family this half-term. Are you brave enough to take on the pumpkin trail through the woods to claim your prize, hear spine tingling tales from Cumbria, or craft your best scary face into a pumpkin?
Woodland Pumpkin Trail
15-31 October, £2pp
The Allan Bank woodland has been taken over by spooky pumpkins, venture into the woods this half-term and see how many you can find… don’t forget to check inside the spine-tingling tunnel. Draw the faces as you go and spot 6 or more to win a prize.
27-28 October, 11am-3pm drop in sessions, £3pp
Unleash your creative skills at our pumpkin carving workshops – will you carve an animal, a face, a shape or something even spookier to put on your doorstep to scare the trick or treaters? We’ll provide the pumpkins, clear out the inside, and have all the tools you need to carve them so all you need to do is come along and have some haunted fun.
Cumbrian Ghost Stories
Saturday 20 and 27 October, 3pm for 30minutes
With its rugged peaks, thick forests and mysterious grand houses, it’s easy to imagine all sorts of eerie stories from around Cumbria. Gather round the fire side for some thrilling tales.
Spot a squirrel
Allan Bank is one of the best places in Grasmere to see our native red squirrels. We work hard to make the grounds their ideal home, spending over £900.00 on feed every year. You can use our binoculars in Wordsworth’s Study to spot one of them on the feeders outside.
A house full of inspiration
Don’t let rain stop play, in the event of drizzly weather just head indoors where we’ve got lots of options to keep the little ones entertained:
- Our playroom is full of traditional toys and a dressing up box; will you be the king of the castle or the princess with the crown?
- Get crafty this half-term with all the materials you need to draw and paint as well as some helpful tips.
- Or go head to head with the whole family and spread out on the floor with one of our board games.
