Take inspiration from our resident artist Hidiyuki Sobe as he paints a giant mural on Allan Bank's staircase walls with our yellow paper. Will you can copy his nature inspired designs or create your own?

Explore the woodland walk

Head on an adventure on the woodland walks and take in the views of Grasmere on this 45 minute rugged path. Pick up a FSC spotter guide from out staff for little explorers to discover what they can find living in the woods.

Bring your binoculars to Allan Bank and see what you can spot. Will it be one of the buzzards soaring overhead or one of the resident red squirrels scampering in the grounds?

With lots of space for little legs to run free, Allan Bank is the perfect place to start ticking off your your '50 things to do before you're 11¾' list, whether its get to know a tree (No. 1), have fun with sticks (No. 12), make friends with a bug (No. 31) or even on those rainy days in the Lakes you can go welly wandering (No.6)

Useful Information for Families

  • You'll find the toilets and baby change by the back door of the house 
  • Picnics are very welcome at Allan Bank both inside and out. There are benches in the garden, lots of space to lay out a blanket on the grass and chairs and tables inside for those rainy days. 
  • Highchairs are available. 
  • Children under 5 are free
  • The second hand book shop has a children's section. 
  • Self service tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available for a small donation. 
  • There is no parking available on site so please use the pay and display public car parks in Grasmere or public transport. There is a bus stop in the center of Grasmere.
