Family friendly things to do at Allan Bank
A short stroll up the hill from Grasmere Village leads the way to a house that you could easily call a home. With inviting gardens where the kids can run free away from the road, activities to keep everyone entertained, picture perfect picnic spots inside and out, and a relaxed atmosphere, Allan Bank is made for families.
Space to stretch little legs
Tucked away from the road, the lawn and woodland offer a perfect space for the kids to burn off some steam. Pick up a kite kit and fly in the breeze, play some lawn games, or go on an adventure in search of all the willow animals hiding in the grounds on our Billie Buzzard Trail.
Rooms for creative minds
Pick up a paintbrush, pens or pencils and have a go at creating your own masterpiece. Don’t worry if you make a little mess, that’s all part of it. We have everything you need as well as some helpful tips and a view to be inspired by. Or, head to the playroom and try out a new look from the dressing up box full of outfits.
Picture perfect picnic spots
All that exploring can be hungry work. You’re welcome to bring along a picnic or a bite to eat from one of the shops in Grasmere and enjoy it on the lawn outside or at a seat in the Butler’s Pantry for the perfect picnic spot with a view.
Please note that Allan Bank doesn’t have a café but tea, coffee and biscuits are available on donation.

Keep your beady out for all the wildlife that calls Allan Bank home. Pick up a pair of binoculars in the study and see what you can find. Will you spot a woodpecker, a red squirrel, bugs and beetles or something else? We’d love to see your findings on Facebook @NationalTrustAllanBank.
