Visiting Allan Bank: What you need to know
The ground floor of the house, garden and woodland walk at Allan Bank are open. You don't need to book your visit in advance. In this article you’ll find everything you need to know about what's open and what to expect from your visit.
Parking and arrival
There is no parking available on site. Please use the pay and display public car parks in Grasmere. We have one disabled car parking space available. Please ring ahead to pre-book it on 015394 35143.
Public car parks in Grasmere can fill-up quickly at busy times, for afternoon visits to Allan Bank you may wish to consider arriving early and combining your visit with a look around Grasmere village, arriving by public transport or parking further afield and combining your visit with a walk. Your ticket grants access to the grounds and house, once you're here you're welcome to stay as long as you like.
Look out for signs while you’re here which will explain any changes to how you can access different parts of the site.
If you’re showing any of the symptoms of coronavirus, or if you've been in contact with anyone that has the virus in the last 14 days, please don’t visit.
We currently have two toilets open for visitors, a disabled toilet with baby changing facilities located on the ground floor of the house.
The gardens and woodland walk are open. Sturdy footwear and waterproofs are advised. Dogs are welcome but we ask that they are kept on a lead as we have red squirrels and sheep.
There are no catering facilities on site, but picnics are very welcome and Grasmere village has lots of shops and cafes. Please help us spend less on wastage removal by taking your litter home with you.
Sadly, we’re not able to open everything at once. The 1st floor of the house remains closed.

An accessible toilet is open on the ground floor of the house.
If you need to bring a carer or essential companion to accompany you as a disabled visitor, you can now book a carers ticket at the time of booking, free of charge.
