Stonehenge and Avebury Walking Challenge

Visitors on King Barrow Ridge, Stonehenge Landscape

Walk in the footsteps of our ancestors in this iconic landscape; rich in archaeology and supporting a wealth of wildlife and plants.

Embrace the outdoors

This is a series of eight walks taking you all over the thought-provoking and inspiring landscapes of the World Heritage Site.

Each walk varies in length from between 3km (approx 2 miles) to 9.5km (approx. 6 miles), four are located in the Avebury landscape and four in the Stonehenge landscape.

Why not challenge yourself to complete these walks throughout the year?

All those completing all the walks before 31 December 2019 can enter a prize draw, the lucky winner will receive a £300 Cotswold Outdoor voucher.  To enter, participants must purchase a Stonehenge and Avebury Walking Challenge pack and take a 'selfie' of themselves on each walk to prove that they have completed it.  (Note: when you book through the website it gives various dates - this is a glitch in the system - please ignore it, the end date is 31/12/2019 and you have from the date you book until then to complete the challenge).

The walking challenge packs cost £10 and you'll receive eight printed walks, which also describe the wildlife, plants and archaeology you may see on your journey, a handy map holder and instructions on how to enter the competition, as well as a voucher for a free hot drink at Avebury.  Click here to sign up now.

The funds raised from selling these packs goes directly towards caring for these iconic landscapes.

However, if you prefer, the walks will be available individually on the website as a free download in the near future.

There's also an opportunity to challenge yourself even further and help raise funds to look after these special spaces by seeking sponsorship for your walks via JustGiving. There is no obligation to do this but if you would like to then click here Raising sponsorship (PDF / 0.3MB) download for information. Should you have any queries on this please email

We hope that you enjoy the walking challenge.
