Joyeux Noël at Basildon Park

Decorated Christmas tree in the Octagon Room at Basildon Park

Step into Christmas Eve at Basildon Park this festive season. The curtains are drawn, and it's evening here in the house. There's sumptuous decoration and giant trees throughout the house, all drawing on Lady Iliffe’s French-Mauritian roots.

The Iliffe family every year would head of to France for the festive period, where they would socialise with illustrious friends such as Grace Kelly. But every tenth year they would spend Christmas at home at Basildon Park. Lady Iliffe would bring a French Christmas to the house in these special years.

This is a wonderful time of year in the history of the family, and the house’s decoration will be a reflection of that. Large piles of presents will sit under traditionally French decorated trees, and as you wander around, listen to the French Christmas music playing.

A Christmas memory for all the family

Basildon Park is the perfect place to bring the whole family and make some festive memories. Children can take away postcards to write to Père Noël, the French Father Christmas. After taking in the festive sights in the house, you and your family are invited to head to the café and enjoy some festive treats, or buy a gift for someone special in the shop.
