'Dinner at 8' at Basildon Park
The curtains have been drawn, the crystal chandeliers are sparkling and the table is set ready for guests to arrive. From the 30 September, you are invited to experience the house for the first time in this night-time setting.
What is happening?
Lord and Lady Iliffe were famous for the weekend parties they laid on, including the decadent dinner parties that went with them. Now, you too have the opportunity to experience the glamour and opulence of a country house evening party.
The Octagon room, Dining room and other grand rooms of the house will be dressed as you’ve never seen them before, including the Iliffe's dinner service laid out in the dining room. As you wander from room to room there’ll be an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation, as if you’ve just stepped into a dinner party about to begin.
When can you visit the house?
The house is open to view at its usual opening hours, with house tours taking place at 11am and 11:30am, starting on the first floor of the mansion. Free-flow visiting is from 12pm - 5pm and entry for this is from the ground floor of the mansion, next to the tea-room.
Please note that from 30 Oct – 31 Dec the house will close at 4pm.
