Largely self-taught, Mavis is widely and highly regarded.
She has had several solo shows and has been represented in many group exhibitions, receiving numerous awards and commissions. Her work is represented in the collections of Fermanagh County Museum, The Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Monaghan, The Icelandic Consul in Belfast, The Derek Hill Collection in Donegal, The Masumi Corporation in Tokyo, The University of Limerick, the office of Senator Hilary Clinton in Washington and The Royal Ulster Academy of Arts Diploma Collection amongst many others.
Mavis was elected as an RUA Associate Academician in 1986. She is a member of the Ulster Watercolour Society, The Watercolour Society of Ireland, the Ulster Society of Women Artists and The Turner Society, London.
Mavis’ much-appreciated contribution to this exhibition includes one of her objet trouvé constructions, a tribute to her friend Joan Trimble, the composer, entitled ‘Sonatina’. The work, which was shown at the RUA Annual Exhibition in 2015, is a fitting acknowledgement of the composer’s centenary year.
