Camping at Dolaucothi Gold Mine, Carmarthenshire
Woodland, wildflowers, birds and the River Cothi make a camping in the Dolaucothi Estate in South Wales a real treat. As well as the chance to see red kites, you could take advantage of the river's status as one of the best spots in the world for sewin (sea trout) fishing.
A visit to the nearby gold mines is a must. Guided tours reveal the complex of pits left by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago.
The story of the mine, which continued work up until 1938, is revealed in the main yard, where 1930s mining machinery and an exhibition bring the history of gold mining to life. And to round off your day there’s the opportunity to even try your own luck at gold panning.
The site is open between March and October. For more information, please call 01558 650 365.
- Please ask at the Dolaucothi Arms in the village for permission to fish on the River Cothi
