If you fancy leaving the car behind, why not turn your journey here into an adventure?

Get here by boat

Come by boat on the Fell Foot Ferry (external link) from Lakeside Pier. It’s a 5-minute ride across Windermere which drops you off at our jetty. Boats run every half an hour throughout the day and there’s plenty to do (and parking) on the other side of the lake including the Lakeside Aquarium.

If you’re coming from Bowness, you can purchase a Yellow Cruise ticket which will take you down to Lakeside Pier, then you can hop on the Fell Foot Ferry from there.

Both options mean you’ll arrive at Fell Foot from a unique viewing point. The Gothic boathouses were built to be seen from the lake, so they look at their most impressive if you’re coming by boat.

Hop aboard a steam train

Step back in time and catch a locomotive at Haverthwaite Station, just 3 miles away, and enjoy the countryside views as you make your way up to Lakeside. From there you can catch the ferry across to Fell Foot as described above.
