Flatford lies in the heart of the beautiful Dedham Vale. This charming hamlet was the inspiration for some of John Constable's most famous pictures, for example, the Hay Wain or Boatbuilding near Flatford Mill among many others. Wandering beside the River Stour or looking at Flatford Mill and Willy Lott's House you can feel as if you are actually walking through one of his paintings.
This is great walking country, with our Orange and Purple Trails providing easy access to beautiful landscapes. Dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on the lead at all times as we have livestock grazing. Please follow the goverments social distancing guidelines at all times. The Tea Room, Gift Shop and Exhibition are closed until further notice. The toilets are open, Wednesday to Sunday, 10am - 3pm and the car park remains open for local visitors. Please note that Suffolk County Council has closed Fen Bridge between Flatford and Dedham for safety reasons. However, you can still walk between the two villages using the paths beside the river Stour.
