Winter walks at Ham House

Whatever the weather you can enjoy the garden at Ham House and the surrounding Thames landscape with a walk this winter and warm up afterwards in the Orangery cafe. The garden, Orangery cafe and shop are open seven days a week from 10am and close at 5pm or dusk if earlier.

There are many different ways to explore our garden this winter; from a winter garden trail to garden history tours or simply enjoy going for a wander and discover the garden for yourself. 

The cherry garden is one of the most recognised areas in our garden. Start by walking under the hornbeam arches before they come into leaf and enjoy the geometric lines of lavender and cotton lavender.  Move on to the maze like wilderness, which comprises of sixteen compartments for you to explore.  Finish your walk in our kitchen garden and discover the vegetable and herbs available at this time of year.

Enjoy our family winter garden trail and tick off activities on your 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ list in the garden this winter.  Start by building a den in the outer courtyard, try catching a falling leaf and run around in the rain or play in the snow.

Feeling a little chilly?  Warm up with a hot chocolate in our Orangery cafe and enjoy a delicious selection of festive bakes and light lunches.
