About 1 Morville Barn

Located on Morville Hall Estate, 1 Morville Barn is a cosy conversion in South Shropshire which is surrounded by lots of local attractions.

Originally believed to be stables, this early 18th-century converted barn offers a cosy and rustic stay for family and friends who want a place to go away together. What’s more, this holiday cottage is part of a new National Trust project to carefully bring to life 16 unused barns at five National Trust estates in England. 1 Morville Barn is one of two halves of Morville Barn and both 1 and 2 Morville Barn can be booked together for two families to come together but enjoy having their own spaces at the end of the day.

1 Morville Barn is part of a former farm on the north side of Morville Hall, a picturesque Elizabethan manor house which was remodelled in the 18th century giving it the appearance of a Georgian home.  Built around the time of the manor’s remodel, this holiday cottage was not a barn in the strict sense, more likely a stable which was extended twice by 1808 to create the building as it now stands.

This holiday accommodation will offer you the perfect space to relax and unwind and makes an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. The cottage offers comfortable accommodation for up to five people, with two king size bedrooms, one bedroom with single bed, one bathroom and one shower room. There’s a woodburning stove for you to enjoy on chillier evening or enjoy cooking your own home cooked meals in the fully equipped modern kitchen.  The property is dog friendly for you to bring your four-legged family members and you can enjoy the sunshine sitting in the front shared enclosed garden, looking over the pond next door.

The nearest town is Bridgnorth, with a vibrant high street offering lots of small independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants. Just a five-minute drive away is the medieval town of Much Wenlock which is known to have inspired the modern Olympic Games, so follow the Olympian Trail through the town to find out more. Slightly further away, about a 15-minute drive from Morville Barn, is Ironbridge, a world heritage site and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. For a great day out, drive 25-minutes to Shrewsbury where you can explore Shrewsbury Castle, Charles Darwin’s home and the historic town centre that hosts lots of independent and artisan businesses.

For those wanting to get out and about in nature and discover the local countryside, it’s worth packing your walking shoes as there are plenty of paths and trails that start from the village of Morville. However, if you’re looking for an adventure that’s a little further afield, Dudmaston Estate is only a 10-minute drive from the property and boasts a landscape of ancient woodlands, productive conifer plantations, brimming pools and trails that are perfect for biking and walking. For walks through the stunning Shropshire countryside head over to Wenlock Edge, or take on the challenge of walking to the top of the Long Mynd. The views from the top are well worth the effort.

About the Acorn rating

To help find the best cottage for you, we have created our own quality rating system for our holiday cottages called the Acorn rating. Ranging from 1-5 Acorns, the rating gives you an indication of a property’s facilities, fixtures and fittings, with five being the highest quality level. The Acorn rating is not connected to any other industry rating system that may be used for holiday cottages and is only to be used as a guide that covers location, style of interior and the facilities you may be looking for. We do not set our cottage pricing based on the Acorn rating we have given a cottage as all our cottages are of an individual nature. Therefore, we recommend that all factors are considered when making your choice. In addition, some of our cottages are curated to be sympathetic to their time period. This means that they might not have all of the aspects of modern living, but impress in so many other ways.

1 Acorn: simple living accommodation with basic furniture and fixtures fit for purpose and clean. Running water and a toilet are provided. There could be some limitations to heating and washing facilities – details of these will be stated clearly on the cottage's webpage. Bedding, linen and towels are supplied with a few exceptions, which are again clearly stated). Facilities for basic catering and living are provided. In general, a 1 Acorn cottage does not have WiFi.

2 Acorn: a mid-quality range of furniture and fittings. Bathroom facilities are basic or there may be a high number of guests to bathroom ratio depending on the size of the cottage. Very few 2 Acorn cottages have WiFi and the kitchen white goods and washing facilities are basic. Bedding, linen and towels are supplied in all 2-5 Acorn cottages.

3 Acorn: a good, standard offer. Generally it is correctly proportioned for the number of guests but could have a few compromises, for example a small kitchen, or a lower bathroom to guest ratio. The variety of white goods available will be better than a 2 Acorn cottage.

4 Acorn: these cottages have more premium furniture, fittings and lighting. Additionally the ratio of bathrooms to guests is likely to be higher, and the bathrooms would be more likely to have separate and spacious showers instead of showers over baths.

5 Acorn: a luxury accommodation offer with very few limiting factors. This is the highest offer available. It is well-equipped and has spacious facilities throughout the cottage or is set within an extraordinary location or building. The furniture is of a high standard, and has real comfort for modern living.
