Access: The island is accessible by ferry from the Greenslade kiosk on Poole Quay. Allocated parking is close by. Further details for the parking and the ferry will be provided soon after you have made your booking. Please note these arrangements are in place until the end of September 2025. The website will be updated with the winter plans mid-September 2025.
Ferry baggage policy: Please pack efficiently and travel light, as you’ll have to carry your own bags on and off the ferry. There’s a limit to the amount of baggage that can be brought on, so that it can be safely stowed in time for departure, leaving enough space for all passengers.
Additional baggage is charged at £5 per item, payable at the ferry ticket office before boarding.
Chargeable items include rucksacks/holdalls over 45L, additional bags, bundled/tied-together bags, boxes, crates, trolleys, cool boxes and food hampers, loose items like blankets and chairs, and double buggies.
Island Facilities: Brownsea Island does not have a shop so you will need to bring food with you. There is a small café on the island, which is open during the day when the island is open from March to October, where you can buy hot food and drinks. You can check café opening times here.
Large groups: Agent’s House can be opened up on the ground floor to the adjoining Custom House to accommodate larger groups.
Wifi: We’re pleased to provide free WiFi access at this accommodation, which is supported by BT. Please note intermittent connection problems can sometimes occur and therefore should not be relied upon.
Heating: The cottage has electric central heating. There is a wood burner in the sitting room which will be laid for you on arrival with enough fuel to get you started.
Logs: Additional logs can be purchased in advance through the contact centre. Logs are available at £9 per bag and this includes kindling.
Garden: There is an enclosed garden at the rear with a paved patio area and lawn.
Utilities: The washing machine is now located in the out house in the back garden.
Offers: Guests will benefit from a late Sunday checkout of 4pm at this cottage.
Free entry for cottage guests into the Dorset Wildlife Trust reserve on Brownsea Island.
Bicycles: We are sorry, but no bicycles are allowed on the island.
Please note: The private NT ferry service does not run on 25 & 26 December or 1 January.
