Summer family fun

Go birdwatching along the Speke-Garston Coastal Reserve at Speke Hall, check out the butterflies on a bug hunt in the woods and see the bees buzzing in the hives in the kitchen garden. Join the rangers for a week of ‘50 Things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ from 31 Aug – 4 Sept based in Speke’s gorgeous gardens. You can also go on a really long bike ride or find your way out of our hedge maze with a map and compass!

Rufford Old Hall, Lancashire Tudor Great Hall

Rufford Old Hall

Rufford Old Hall is one of the best places to build a den, but you can also go birdwatching and bug hunting. Rufford has it’s own beehives, and you can often see different birds on the canal that runs through the grounds. If you’re very lucky you might even see a rare red squirrel.

A view across the Marram and Sea-lyme sand dunes at Formby

The sea is the best place to try stone skimming, wave jumping, catching a crab or exploring a rock pool – so head to Formby for an action-packed day at the seaside.
