Kite flying at the Cage at Lyme, Cheshire

Lyme

At Lyme you can do an amazing 26 of the 50 Things to do before you’re 11¾ activities. Most are self-led, but if you join Lyme’s rangers who are expert outdoor adventurers every Tuesday in the school holidays, you can try building your own den, creating wild art, or climbing up to the Cage to fly your kite.

Children playing on a log at Hare Hill, Cheshire.

Hare Hill

Here in our woodland garden you can create some wild art, make a grass trumpet, hunt for bugs, go bird watching, or hold a scary beast. Look out for newts, frogs, water boatman and pond skaters in the ponds – even a heron occasionally - as well as brightly coloured Mandarin ducks. In the trees around the garden see if you can spot Great Tits, Nuthatches and Blue Tits, and honey bees amongst the flowers in the Walled Garden.

Thurstaston Common

Thurstaston Common on the Wirral is a great place in summer - go geocaching, star gazing or bug hunting as part of ’50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’, along with damming a stream and, towards autumn, picking blackberries in the wild.

Quarry Bank

Quarry Bank is a good spot to go bug hunting, bird watching or barefoot walking. Look out for our outdoor adventure week with the rangers where you’ll find loads of ’50 things’ to do, and don’t forget our family bat walks at the end of August.
