A relaxing riverside stroll 

Nourish the soul by soaking in the sounds of the burbling Afon Glaslyn on this short route at Beddgelert. The 1 mile accessible level path has several benches dotted along the river, so that you can perch, listen and watch the river flow past. The bare trees lining the riverside cast intricate shadows at this time of year. Perfect for a cold, crisp day.

For stunning mountain views 

Head to Cwm Idwal, Wales’ first National Nature Reserve and a perfect example of a glaciated lake. Its especially stunning with a dusting of snow on the tops of the rugged mountains that curl around the lake. A popular location with ice climbers, the route up to the lake can be treacherous if icy, please check the weather conditions before venturing out and take appropriate mountain ware. It's a popular route, so you’re unlikely to be the only person on the paths, but the views sure are stunning.

Off the beaten track 

Frosty mornings transform this Celtic rainforest with glistening carpets of mosses and bryophytes. With several waymarked routes passing through this National Nature Reserve you can easily escape to a quieter corner of Snowdonia. If you visit after a lot of rain you’ll be rewarded with a thundering scene of water at Rhaeadr Ddu waterfall. If it’s icy cold, you may even be lucky to spot the waterfall frozen in time. Whatever the weather, wrap up warm and take care on the uneven paths.

Blow away the cobwebs 

This short but steep walk is sure to warm you up on a cold winter’s day. Venture up to the headland at Dinas Oleu, perched above Barmouth and you will be rewarded with stunning coastal views. A stone shelter offers reprise from onshore winds or a stone bench offers a place to sit and watch the waves crashing below.
