Learning opportunities in the Peak District
The Moorland Discovery Centre is set in the grounds of the beautiful Longshaw Estate surrounded by some of the most spectacular areas of the Peak District National Park.
Longshaw and the surrounding area is a fantastic location for learning. The Moorland Discovery Centre is a custom-built base for groups of all ages and abilities and our friendly team of Learning Officers would love to welcome you.
Moorland Discovery Centre
The Moorland Discovery Center is an outdoor education classroom. The center delivers curriculum-based environmental education, as well as family and community events. It can also be booked by groups who want to run their own meetings or courses. The Moorland Discovery Centre is run in partnership between the National Trust and the Peak District National Park.
Independent school visits
Many schools and groups visit independently and enjoy what the estate has to offer. Coach/minibus parking is limited (including pick up and drop off) and must be pre booked before your visit. Coach/mini bus parking is £10, payable at the Longshaw café or the Moorland Discovery Centre.
The estate is made up of large areas of moorland, woodland, farmland, streams and ponds. It’s home to Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Special protection Areas (SPA) and Special Areas for Conservation (SAC). Thank you for your sensitivity to the special nature of the site and for following the countryside code.
