Donate your books to help support Nostell
In the Stables courtyard, just opposite the shop, we have a neatly tucked away secondhand book shop. It's a great space to have a minute relaxing or selecting something new for your bookcase. Enjoy a hot drink with a local bake from the Bite to Eat cafe while perusing our offer. Any money made contributes to the care of Nostell.
All donations of previously loved books are greatly appreciated to keep it stocked up. So when you're visiting bring any books you have finished with or if you're having a clear out, give us a call to arrange a good time to drop them in if you have more than a bag or box.
Local and handmade
We're proud to stock delicious food goods made on the doorstep including Yorkshire honey, perfect for spreading on your toast. You'll also see a wide range of books, ornaments and pieces for your home, which have been hand crafted and locally sourced.
" It’s the creating of something from a lump of clay and seeing it grow in front of your eyes. It’s a thrill that never disappears really."
Keep an eye out for new additions to your garden in the Stables courtyard, from plants to garden ornaments and tools. Our range of seasonal plants can be purchased as a reminder of your visit or you can choose a wildlife sculpture made from recycled oil drums.
All our plants are grown in peat free compost and we have new stock arriving every fortnight from our local suppliers, so you can always be sure to find something new. Make sure your peruse our book section, too, where you'll find plenty of ideas to help you plan out the gardening year ahead.
Fancy a Nostell tea towel or mug? Look out for our exclusive range of souvenirs only available at Nostell. Don't forget to pick up a guide book to find out more about the history of the hosue and garden, as well as the interior designers Thomas Chippendale and Robert Adam.
The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director by Thomas Chippendale is the reason for the success of this iconic furniture-maker and designer. Published in 1754, the Director was the most luxurious and comprehensive book of furniture designs created, covering the full range of objects that an aspiring house owner would want in all of the on-trend styles of the day. Now you can get a reprint from Nostell shop for a unique glimpse into the world of 18th century design and ambition.
