What better way to spend a day than by ticking off adventures on the 50 things to do before you're 11 ¾ list?

50 things to do before you're 11 ¾

The campaign encourages kids to spend more time outdoors having fun experiences. The list is full of inspiration for the ultimate outdoors challenges, from camping out in the wild to birdwatching or cooking on a campfire.

There are many of the 50 Things activities available at Melford Hall at any time. Why not explore the inside of a tree, hunt for bugs or become  'green-fingered' by planting it, growing it, and eating it?

We’ve handpicked a few of the many things you can do here to start ticking off your 50 Things list, and there are other National Trust properties nearby.

Just ask the team at reception for more help and pointers when you arrive.

Build a den

Explore the surrounds and see what you can make from the natural materials, for example wood, branches, twigs and leaves.

Hunt for bugs

Explore around plants and underneath the bark of fallen trees to discover bugs and mini-beasts. Remember to return what you find to the wild before it's time to leave!

Make a grass trumpet

Which is the best grass to make your trumpet from? Who can make the loudest noise? Are there other things from nature that you could use as a musical instrument?

Explore inside a tree

Explore underneath the huge box tree in the garden. Elsewhere look for trees with big holes and keep an eye open for mini-beasts. Some trees are large enough (and old enough) to hide inside.

Make a daisy chain

Surrounded by large lawns and flowers, take the opportunity to find daisies, as well as many other species of plants and flowers.

Go on a walk barefoot

Feel the cool grass between your toes. Keep to the lawns and take care to avoid thorns or other things that might prick you - ouch!

Plant it, grow it, eat it

Just like you, fruit and vegetables need a bit of time to grow. And like you, they need the right conditions. For fruit and vegetables it's light, moisture and warmth. Head to the eat seasonably website for all the information you need to grow your own.
