Preparing for your visit – Mount Stewart Reopening FAQ’s

Get the answers to some of your most frequently asked questions about reopening and how you can book your visit to Mount Stewart.

In line with NI Executive guidance, the house, shop and squirrel hide remain closed. Our outdoor areas remain open. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.

In line with government guidance, you're required to wear a face covering in most enclosed spaces, unless exempt. Please bring one with you. This includes the Visitor Reception, Shop, Tea Room and the toilets. Please bring one with you.  

For the safety of our visitors, we’ll be closing at 4.30pm every day (last entry 3.30pm) from Monday 15th March. To help support our teams closing down the estate safely and in a timely manner we ask you to leave promptly.

Parking and when you arrive

  • Please have confirmation ready on arrival with your membership card (if NT Member) and your booking confirmation.

  • We've introduced advance booking to keep everyone safe and maintain social distancing. To avoid disappointment please book in advance, especially at busier times such as weekends and bank holidays. However, where space is available on weekdays, pre-booking may not always be necessary. 

  • Please have your essential companion or carers card with you if applicable.

  • Please arrive within your timeslot. If you're more than 10 minutes late, we won't be able to guarantee you entry.

  • Visitors should show their tickets on their phone, and at some places they may be asked to share their name and booking number. To maintain social distancing, we’re asking visitors not to pass anything to our staff.  

  • Our gates will close and be locked for the day at 4.30pm from Monday 15th March. To help support our teams closing down the estate safely and in a timely manner we ask you to leave promptly.

  • Accessible parking is available in Car Park 1 and there will be staff on site to help with any queries.

  • If you wish to visit the trails on the south of the estate, please check in at the Shepherding Hut and park in Car Park 2.

  • If you are visiting the lake walk, gardens, tea room, shop and demesne walks, please park in Car Park 1 and check in via reception.

  • Please wear a face covering in all enclosed areas.

Staying Safe

  • Your visit will be a bit different to usual. Check in will be at the Look Out in Car Park 1 for our Lake Walk, Gardens and Demesne Walks (which is now open with a one-way system in place) and via the Shepherd's Hut for the trails and Dog Exercise area on the south of the estate. On arrival please follow the signs, there’s no need to rush, if you have to wait to give others space we’ll still let you in.

  • There is a one-way system around the lake walk and formal gardens – please follow signage and instructions from staff. To download a route map of the Gardens, Lake Walk & Demesne Walks, click HERE  

  • There is a two-way system around the trails and demesne walks - please adhere to social distancing guidelines. To download a route map of the trails, click HERE

  • In line with government guidance, you're required to wear a face covering in most enclosed spaces, unless exempt. Please bring one with you.

  • To help keep everyone safe, please follow social distancing and government guidance when you visit. And look out for signs while you’re here which will explain any changes to how you can access different parts of the site.  

  • If you’re showing any of the symptoms of coronavirus, or if you've been in contact with anyone that has the virus in the last 14 days, please don’t visit.

Facilities

  • Lake Walk, Ploughman's Hill, Demesne Walk, Formal Gardens, Rose Garden, Red (the red trail parkland section will be closed for at least 3 week for its annual grazing) and Blue Trails are now open.

  • The Natural Play area is open. There is no hand sanitiser available at the Natural Play so please bring your own.

  • The house, squirrel hide, shop including second hand book shop, lookout, green trail and Temple of the Winds will remain closed to the public at this time. 

  • Access routes have changed to ensure social distancing.

  • The dog exercise area is open but can only be used by visitors who have pre-booked their visit. We would ask that all visitors observe social distancing in this area and use the sanitiser spray provided on gates and taps.

  • The Tea-room will be open for grab and go only from the 15th March 2021 (see opening times for details) and is serving a limited range of takeway hot and cold drinks and some light snacks.

  • The Horsebox will be closed from 19th April 2021 for maintenance and will reopen for summer service. 

  • Look Out and Shepherds Hut entry points close at 3.30pm.

  • The toilets in the Courtyard, Car Park 1, the Temple or the Winds are open.

Accessibility

  • The toilets in the Courtyard, Car Park 1, the Temple or the Winds are open.

  • At this time we are unable to loan out trampers or mobility scooters, hoever visitors are welcome to bring and use their own. For more information regarding accessibility at Mount Stewart, please visit our access page HERE.

Booking Tickets

  • Please book in advance to guarentee entry. Where there is space on weekdays, pre-booking may not always be required.

  • Check junk mail or spam if you have not received an email or contact the box office.

  • You can amend or change your booking by following the link in your email confirmation.

Changing your booking

If your plans change and you can’t make your timeslot, you can easily change or cancel your booking. We really appreciate you doing this as soon as possible so the tickets can be made available for other visitors. 

If you’re a member, the option to cancel or change your booking can be found in your confirmation email by selecting ‘view and manage your order online' underneath your order summary. 

For non-members, please ring us on 0344 249 1895 to discuss changing your booking.

General Guidance

  • Please keep all dogs on leads, in all areas apart from the dog exercise area.

  • Please take all rubbish home with you.

  • No BBQs, campfires or outdoor cooking equipment permitted.

  • No cycling.
