Mount Stewart Lake Walk in Spring

Get the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions about visiting Mount Stewart.

The Tea-room, Shop, Secondhand Bookshop, House, Squirrel Hide and gardens are open. On weekdays you don’t need to pre-book your visit. At busier times, like weekends and school holidays, booking is recommended to guarantee entry.

In line with government guidance, you're required to wear a face covering in most enclosed spaces, unless exempt. Please bring one with you. This includes the Visitor Reception, Shop, Tea Room and the toilets. 

For the safety of our visitors, we’ll be closing at 4.30pm every day (last entry 3.30pm) from Monday 15th March. To help support our teams closing down the estate safely and in a timely manner we ask you to leave promptly.

Parking and when you arrive

  • Please have confirmation ready on arrival with your membership card (if NT Member) and your booking confirmation.

  • We've introduced advance booking to keep everyone safe and maintain social distancing. On weekdays you don’t need to pre-book your visit. At busier times, like weekends and school holidays, booking is recommended to guarantee entry.

  • Please have your essential companion or carers card with you if applicable.

  • Please arrive within your timeslot. If you're more than 10 minutes late, we won't be able to guarantee you entry.

  • Visitors should show their tickets on their phone, and at some places they may be asked to share their name and booking number. To maintain social distancing, we’re asking visitors not to pass anything to our staff.  

  • Our gates will close and be locked for the day at 4.30pm from Monday 15th March. To help support our teams closing down the estate safely and in a timely manner we ask you to leave promptly.

  • Accessible parking is available in Car Park 1 and there will be staff on site to help with any queries.

  • If you wish to visit the trails on the south of the estate, please check in at the Shepherding Hut and park in Car Park 2.

  • If you are visiting the lake walk, gardens, tea room, shop and demesne walks, please park in Car Park 1 and check in via reception.

  • Please wear a face covering in all enclosed areas.

Staying Safe

  • Check in will be at the Visitor Reception for our House, Lake Walk, Gardens and Demesne Walks and via the Shepherd's Hut for the trails and Dog Exercise area on the south of the estate. On arrival please follow the signs, there’s no need to rush, if you have to wait to give others space we’ll still let you in.

  • To help keep everyone safe, please follow social distancing and government guidance when you visit. And look out for signs while you’re here which will explain any changes to how you can access different parts of the site.  

  • If you’re showing any of the symptoms of coronavirus, or if you've been in contact with anyone that has the virus in the last 10 days, please don’t visit.

Facilities

  • The house is open on a freeflow basis from 11am (last entry 3.45pm)

  • Visitor Reception, shop and second hand book shop are open (see opening times for details).

  • The Tea-room is open for indoor dining and you can also pick up light bites and drinks to take on your walk (see opening times for details).

  • Access routes may have changed to ensure social distancing.

  • The Natural Play area is open. There is no hand sanitiser available at the Natural Play so please bring your own. 

  • The dog exercise area is open but can only be used by visitors who have pre-booked their visit. We would ask that all visitors observe social distancing in this area and use the sanitiser spray provided on gates and taps.

  • The Horsebox will be closed from 19th April 2021 for maintenance and will reopen for summer service. 

  • Visitor Reception and Shepherd's Hut entry points close at 3.30pm.

  • The toilets in the Courtyard, Car Park 1, the Temple or the Winds as well as the accessible toilet in Visitor Reception (the other toilets in this area remain closed).

Booking Tickets

  • On weekdays you don’t need to pre-book your visit. At busier times, like weekends and school holidays, booking is recommended to guarantee entry. 

  • We have moved to a new booking system called DigiTickets.  Please click here to book tickets or contact the box office on 0344 249 1895

  • Check junk mail or spam if you have not received an email or contact the box office.

  • You can amend or change your booking by following the link in your email confirmation.

Changing your booking

  • If your plans change and you can’t make your timeslot, you can easily change or cancel your booking. We really appreciate you doing this as soon as possible so the tickets can be made available for other visitors. 
     
  • If you’re a member, the option to cancel or change your booking can be found in your confirmation email by selecting ‘view and manage your order online' underneath your order summary. 
     
  • For non-members, please ring us on 0344 249 1895 to discuss changing your booking.

General Guidance

  • Please keep all dogs on leads, in all areas apart from the dog exercise area.

  • Please take all rubbish home with you.

  • No BBQs, campfires or outdoor cooking equipment permitted.

  • No cycling or electric scooters. Balance bikes and bicycles with stablisers are permitted.
