Published : 15 Jun 2017

This unmissable two day festival celebrates the arts on an international scale and reveals Mount Stewart’s history as a hothouse of creativity, individuality and political influence.

Building on the success of last year’s event, Mount Stewart Conversations is once again attracting a stellar line-up of acclaimed guests who will debate, read and talk on a wide range of subjects.  An exciting mix of activities and entertainment is planned to take place around the family home and world-famous gardens. Beyond Skin, a leading intercultural arts organisation, will work in partnership with us to bring together diverse global and local artists and musicians who will encourage audience participation through entertaining and creative workshops and performance.

Speaking at the festival launch, Jon Kerr, General Manager, Mount Stewart said: ‘We are delighted to announce the return of Mount Stewart Conversations on the 14 and 15 October. Last year’s festival was a wonderful event where visitors had a unique opportunity to meet with well-known actors, writers and presenters and participate in dynamic debates, topical conversations and entertaining festival activities.

This year we are inviting people of all ages to come along, join in and celebrate the arts. The festival programme offers a diverse mix of cultural acts and performances that resonate with Mount Stewart’s place in history as a melting pot of culture and minds. With an exciting line up of special guests from Ireland and beyond still to be announced, it’s sure to be a festival not to be missed.'

Volunteering opportunities for all

Jenny Ferguson, Volunteering, Learning and Community Involvement Officer at Mount Stewart also added: 'As a charity, volunteers are at the heart of all we do and so we’d love to hear from anyone who would like to support us at Mount Stewart Conversations.  There are number of exciting volunteer roles available over the weekend, including a brilliant opportunity for students aged 16 to 18 to join our Youth Media Team. We need help in lots of areas, such as Event Welcome, Artist Liaison and Minibus Drivers, so if you are interested in being a part of this amazing festival and supporting our work please visit the website for more details.'

Further information on special guests, festival performances and tickets will be released in the coming weeks. Access to the conversation sessions and readings will be ticketed, whilst other activities will be free of charge.  Please also note that Normal Admission to Mount Stewart will apply during the festival weekend.

Supported by Ards and North Down Borough Council, Mount Stewart Conversations 2017 is expected to attract audiences from near and far to this beautiful part of Northern Ireland to celebrate the arts, literature and music in a world-class setting.
