Picnics and ice cream at Petworth

A family enjoying a picnic in Petworth Park

There's nothing like a picnic to enjoy the summer weather. With plenty of room in the Orangery and also out in the deer park, you'll be spoiled for choice.

You're welcome to bring your own food to enjoy as a picnic in the Capability Brown landscaped deer park. If you fancy something extra then why not pick up snacks and cakes and ice cream to go from the Audit Room Café or Coffee Shop and take it out into the Pleasure Ground to enjoy?

We recommend the Orangery, the grassy area as you enter the Pleasure Grounds from the house, as a shady place to enjoy a picnic. In the past this used to be an area where the family grew oranges, though there aren't any oranges anymore, there is still plenty of shade to enjoy a picnic.

With a tempting selection of cakes and bakes, sandwiches and drinks in environmentally friendly disposable cups, these are perfect to pick up and enjoy on the go or for a picnic with friends and family.

Please do remember to pick up any litter once you've finished, you'll find bins in the courtyard beside the Servants' Quarters but also at the car park for the park and mansion.

Ice Cream

New for 2018 is our Ice Cream cart that serves Jude's ice cream and sorbets outdoors every weekend, and every day during the the summer holidays. You'll find the cart by the Fire Engine Shed just outside the main courtyard.

With classic flavours like vanilla and strawberries and cream, you'll also find plenty of intriguing flavours such as black coconut, blood orange, flat white and gin and tonic.

Made in nearby Hampshire, Jude's uses natural, great tasting ingredients.

Right next to the ice cream cart you'll see a selection of rugs from the shop. At £17 these are perfect from an unplanned picnic or just for somewhere to stretch out, lie back and enjoy your ice cream.
