Autumn days out at Quarry Bank

Visitors exploring Quarry Bank in Autumn

As summer fades away and autumn starts to creep in, Quarry Bank takes on a different feel. Explore the mill galleries to find out what working life was like here, then warm up with a hot drink and cake in the restaurant. Beyond the mill you can also explore the homes of the mill owner, mill worker and child apprentices. Take in the last bit of colour in the gardens, or wander through the woodland as the leaves begin to change.

Autumn colour in the gardens at Quarry Bank

See late flowering borders

The autumn colours in the garden against the red brick mill make Quarry Bank a picture-perfect spot. You'll find plenty of colour in the borders especially the late flowering herbaceous borders in front of the restored glasshouse in the Upper Garden. See a wide variety of fruit and veg getting ready for harvest in the walled garden, glasshouse and Apprentice House orchard. The gardens here supplied Quarry Bank House and the Apprentice House with food. Today, the produce is used in our cafe and restaurant.
