Autumn days out at Quarry Bank

Dogs in the woodland estate at autumn

As summer fades away and autumn starts to creep in, Quarry Bank takes on a different feel with a calmer pace to the place. Explore the mill galleries to find out what working life was like here, or join one of our weekday tours to discover more. Beyond the mill you can also explore the homes of the mill owner, mill worker and child apprentices. Take in the last bit of colour in the gardens, or wander through the woodland as the leaves begin to change.

Visitors exploring the galleries inside the mill at Quarry Bank

Explore life inside the mill

Feel the clatter and bustle of the powerful machines and watch as fabric is woven in front of you. Last year the galleries inside the mill were transformed to give you a better idea of what life was like for the men, women and children who worked here, with a new lift giving you easier access to all floors. At the top of the mill you can discover our latest temporary exhibition, Rights of the Child, as well as contemporary art marking 200 years since the Peterloo Massacre.

Take a nature walk with a ranger to discover seasonal wows, meet a specialist to find out how water powered the mighty mill, learn why steam was so important to the fabric of Quarry Bank, or join an exclusive out-of-hours morning tour taking you on a journey though the bale to yarn process. On Thursdays you can also meet our conservation team who care for this special place.
