Trouble at t' Mill this half term

Child taking a close look at cotton on a loom at Quarry Bank

Head back to the nineteenth century and find out what it was like for the children working in the mill at Quarry Bank. Follow the story trail and have a go at some of the jobs the children would have done.

Become a factory inspector and try out the brand new family trail in the mill created by children’s author Philip Ardagh and illustrated by Jamie Littler. Have a go at different jobs and find out what dangers the children working in the mill faced each day. Don’t forget to collect your stamps in your inspection booklet and make your Factory Inspector badge.

Join our show for all ages and experience a comedic look at health and safety in the mill where you become the Factory Inspector. Spot the accidents waiting to happen and learn why mills were such dangerous places, putting profit over health and safety. Shows will take place at 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm in the Story Space.

Inside the Apprentice House at Quarry Bank you can also try out life as an apprentice on a family tour. See where the children lived, ate and slept when they weren't working in the mill.

While you're here make the most of the great outdoors at Quarry Bank with a walk through the woodland and keep your eyes peeled for winter wildlife.
