Embrace the festive season
With Christmas almost upon us, we'd like to offer you an alternative to facing the high street this year. Why not come to Scotney Castle to do some of your shopping this year? Our team are available to help you choose some lovely gifts for all those special to you.
Discover the new season's collection
Every season, a new collection is released inspired by a National Trust property or outdoor space. Inspiration can come from many areas - the flora or fauna of an outdoor site, the detail on a wooden panel or a piece of embroidery. Every collection has a story and a heritage, reflecting the diversity of the properties we look after within the National Trust.
The Christmas, the retail team took their inspiration from Petworth in Sussex and Knightshayes, a quirky 19th century Victorian gothic revival house in Tiverton, Devon. The carved, guilded ceilings in the ornate and opulent Library and Drawing Room, the lavish colours and symbol detailing, have all been used for the prints on this year's Christmas ranges. Look out for the distinctive midnight blue and gold packaging in our shop.
Gifts from the plant centre
A walk round our plant centre will surely inspire you. We have a selection of pots, containers, gardeners tools and equipment, hats, gloves, solar powered lights, wind chimes and decorations to enhanace your garden. There's also plenty to entice wildlife into your garden so something for any green-fingered friend or nature-lover.
Something for a real ale fan
As the only working hop farm in the National Trust and one of the last few in Kent, we're proud to offer for sale pale ale made using hops from Scotney Castle Farm. Viceroy pale ale, Grasshopper ale and Spirit of Kent ale are made using over 50% of hops from our hop farm. You really can't leave without taking a bottle or two home with you and these would make a lovely gift for a real ale fan.
If you're interested in the hop farm, why not take a walk out towards the hop gardens and the hoppers huts over the Christmas period? You can purchase a map from Visitor Reception to guide you out there but beware, it could be muddy so bring your wellies. Or alternatively, plan to come back during September when we have our Hop Garden Tours and our Hops & Harvest weekend to immerse yourself in the local hop harvest and meet local producers of traditional Kent goods.
Food and drink treats
For something a bit special, then take a look at the food and drink items. From jams and chutneys, to chocolate, sweets and biscuits, plus teas and spirits, there's even a good selection of local produce. If you have a sweet tooth then try the Goupie chocolates, or perhaps the Hive & Keeper local honey. If gin is your thing, then try the Anno Kent Dry Gin, made in nearby Marden, or maybe the toffee and vodka spirit drink. Delicious!
Just for Christmas, you can also enjoy puddings, mince pies, marzipan fruits, sweet and savoury biscuits as well as hot chocolate spoons and brandy butter.
