Summer holiday days out at Scotney Castle
Keeping kids active during the summer holidays can be a challenge but we have a variety of activities for you to enjoy running all through the holidays. So why not pack a picnic, grab a rug and come and spend the day exploring the house, garden and wider estate.
Scotney Castle Tree Hunt
Sat 20 Jul- Sun 1 Sept, 10am-4pm.
Scotney Castle is one of the best places to discover and learn about trees. Follow our tree trail and learn to identify some of the common trees in the garden, as well as spot the oldest one, the tallest one and some of the more unusual ones. You'll even learn how to calculate a tree's age and height.
Just pick up a trail sheet from Visitor Reception and head out into the garden. There is no charge to take part in the trail.
Noah’s Lost Animals
Sat 20 Jul- Sun 1 Sept, 10am-4pm.
When you visit the house, why not take part in the Noah's Lost Animals trail? Some of the local children came to have tea with Mrs Hussey and she let them play with the Noahs Ark Set. This is very old and belonged to the children that lived here in the 1860s and 70s. While they were playing some of the animals were left behind in different rooms of the house. See how many you can spot on your way round.
Big Tree Climbing
Mon 29 July & Monday 12 August, 10am-5pm. £20 per person.
Join two highly skilled and friendly instructors to reach new heights. They will teach you how to enter a tree's canopy using ropes and karabiners, whilst being securely attached in a harness at all times. Once at the top of the tree you will gain experience which can't be found on the ground. Whilst hanging out in the canopy, if you're feeling brave you could try some branch walking before returning safely to the ground.
Scotney in Bloom photography courses
Thurs 8 Aug. 10.30-1pm Kids. £39 per person, camera rental £5 if required.
Thurs 8 Aug. 2-4.30pm Teens. £45 per person, D-SLR camera rental £10 if required.
Kids and teens can sign up to make the most of their cameras at one of our workshops run by Sharp Shots Photo Club. Learn how a camera makes a photograph and how to control the camera settings to take great images, working with aperture, the close up setting and shutter speed. Students will finish the course with a great set of colourful, fun images.
Guided Walk: Rivers and ponds of Scotney
Sat 17 - Mon 26 August. 11.30am & 2pm.
Join a walk visiting the rivers and ponds of Scotney. Over the years we've done a lot of work to improve our river banks and pond habitats. Come along to find out what we've done and why.
All our estate walks take approximately 90 minutes and will be across uneven ground so may not be suitable for young children or pushchairs.
50 things to do before you're 11 ¾
Set your children free with our 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾ activities. Let them feel the wind in their hair, smell food cooking on an open fire, track wild animals and eat a juicy apple straight from the tree.
Pick up a 50 Things leaflet from Visitor Reception and see our suggestions of activities you can try at Scotney Castle this summer.
All events are free of charge except if indicated. Normal admission only will apply. To book onto any events, please visit our What's On page linked below.
