Christmas at Sheffield Park
Friday 1 December - Thursday 4 January
This December, take a stroll in the garden with it's winding paths and mirror lakes to discover our extravagant Christmas trees dressed for a festive pantomime. We'll be serving seasonal treats in the cafe with Christmas lunches from 18-22 December and the shop is a cave of wonders full of Christmas inspiration so you can tick everyone off your Christmas gift list.
Christmas traditions at Sheffield Park
Christmas was always an extravagant affair at Sheffield Park and the 3rd Earl often put on a pantomime as part of the festive celebrations. In January 1897 family and friends were brought together to perform Aladdin, which was the Earl's favourite. His hostess and companion, Miss Mabel Attenborough played Aladdin and performed a ‘grotesque’ dance with her brother (Lt Attenborough playing Widow Twankey). They were cheered and asked to perform an encore although they were already exhausted. Hilda (her sister) played the Vizier.
