Celebrate the Christmas period at Sheffield Park and Garden

Saturday 17 November - Wednesday 2 January

This Christmas period, escape the mayhem for a while and plan a visit to Sheffield Park and Garden to refresh your mind and restore some calm. Take a stroll through the garden with it's mirror lakes reflecting the winter trees and embrace the season, spotting all the garden has to offer at this time of year. Bare trees expose their structural form and with crisp air and the crunch of frosty leaves underfoot, the garden is sure to delight in winter as much as any other season.

Seasonal silhouettes in the garden

This Christmas, look out for the seasonal silhouettes in the garden as they interact with the landscape along the winding paths. Follow the trail and join in their activities. Who will you spot along the way?

Join us for some festive food and drink in the tearoom

What better after a bracing walk than a bowl of hot soup or a tasty one-pot. Or why not try one of the seasonal treats in the tearoom, perfect for catching up with friends over the festive period. Mince pies and Christmas cake are just some of the delicious bakes available everyday to be enjoyed in the cosy surroundings of Oak Hall, with plenty of seats next to the cosy log burner and traditional decorations adding to the festive atmosphere. Make your first mince pie of the season a Sheffield Park one.

Christmas traditions at Sheffield Park

Christmas was always an extravagant affair at Sheffield Park and the 3rd Earl often put on a pantomime as part of the festive celebrations. In January 1897 family and friends were brought together to perform Aladdin, which was the Earl's favourite. His hostess and companion, Miss Mabel Attenborough played Aladdin and performed a ‘grotesque’ dance with her brother (Lt Attenborough playing Widow Twankey).  They were cheered and asked to perform an encore although they were already exhausted. Hilda (her sister) played the Vizier.

Make magical memories with the family this Christmas

Follow our children's trail through the garden and help us find the robins hiding near the silhouettes around the garden. Maybe you'll spot a few real ones along the way too. You can also sign up to make a stained glass window and silhouette decoration to take home to add to your tree.

Outside of the main garden, if you're looking for somewhere to explore and for the kids to run wild, pull on your wellies and head to the Parkland where you can explore the natural playtrail at Ringwood Toll or head down to the River Ouse and discover the far reaching corners of the estate.
