Autumn gardening at Sissinghurst Castle Garden

The south cottage in September

September in the garden is a time of preparation, with the colder months not far away there's plenty of work that needs to be done. Here's a few key points that our garden team are working on this month.

September work

The azalea bank will be undergoing some major work this month, with the bank being completely dug out. Our garden

Due to the wear and tear from the high level of footfall that we get during the summer, September becomes the first chance to start full work on the lawns. This is when the garden team will start to re-turf areas that are in need of it, with the orchard being a high priority. The orchard will also be planted with new bulbs as will the lime walk, two areas of the garden that can look at their best during spring.

There'll be work happpening in the new north garden which is located next to the white garden. This will mainly involve planting and making sure everything is ready for the garden's re-opening in March.
