Immortal Sport at Stourhead

If you visit on the weekend of 13th/14th May 2017, you may find you are sharing your visit with athletes who are tackling one of the three events taking place over the weekend as Stourhead hosts Immortal Sport for the weekend.

The Immortal weekend is the only opportunity for athletes to swim the iconic lake; it will be truly memorable for athletes and makes spectacular viewing for visitors. One of the events, the Immortal Sprint has even been shortlisted for the Triathlon of the Year award.

The Immortal Sprint Triathlon takes place on the Saturday, seeing up to 200 athletes take to the Lake for a 900m swim, followed by a 600m run to transition, up through the village, collecting their bikes to embark on a, 20 mile bike course taking in the surrounding villages.  Once they have completed this, the triathletes begin the final element of a challenging 4.5 mile run through the estate and woodland. The unique evening schedule means a fantastic atmosphere is guaranteed.

The Immortal Half is the headline event of the weekend, providing the ultimate test for endurance racers. The swim starts at 7am on Sunday morning and sees athletes from all over the country tackle two laps of the lake, before collecting their bikes for a 56 mile bike ride the final leg is a 3 lap 13.1 mile run, finishing at Stourhead House and earning the right to become an Immortal triathlete.

This year we are also hosting a new event, the Immortal 10k, the first race of the busy weekend and starts at 9am on the Saturday. It starts on the driveway to the house and runs down through the village to Gasper, before climbing into the stunning woodland surrounding King Alfred’s Tower. The race finishes outside the House, for a truly memorable finish.
