'50 things to do before you're 11¾' at Upton House and Gardens
Come and get closer to nature at Upton. There are some activities you can do all year round, and some that you’ll want to plan ahead for the right weather or season.
Pick up a '50 things' leaflet from reception and get some ideas for making life-long memories with your younger explorers. Here are some of the best activities from the list to do at Upton House and Gardens.
No. 1 Get to know a tree
Our woodland walk and wild garden are the perfect places to explore different types of trees including yews, hollies and cedars.
No. 2 Roll down a really big hill
Our sunken garden has the perfect hill for you to roll down. Why not have a race with your friends and see how much speed you can build up down the hill.
No. 26 Hunt for fossils
Did you know that the walls of Upton House are built of local ironstone which was formed in warm, shallow Jurassic seas? If you have a look at the walls to the rear of the property, you will spot the fossilised remains of ancient sea shells in the rock.
No. 31 Make friends with a bug
Get down on your hands and knees and investigate the logs and bushes on the woodland walk and see if you can find a creepy crawly to befriend.
No. 44 Watch a bird
We have so many wonderful birds nesting at Upton House and Gardens at different times throughout the year. Pick up a spotter sheet from reception and see how many birds you can spot as you walk around.
