Heritage Open Days: Free entry to White Mill
We are celebrating Heritage Open Days by offering free entry to White Mill on 12 and 13 September. Discover White Mill, a corn mill with original wooden machinery in a peaceful riverside setting
- Booking not needed
- Free event
The grounds surrounding the site are free to explore and there are tours of the Mill. Tours are available throughout the day, and last around 40-45 minutes.
An 18th-century corn mill in a peaceful, rural setting. Rebuilt in 1776 on a site marked in the Domesday Book, this substantial mill was extensively repaired in 1994 and still retains its original elm and applewood machinery (now too fragile to be used). Enjoy a stroll over White Mill bridge or sit in the garden and enjoy the tranquillity of the River Stour.

The basics
- Accessibility
There is one designated disabled parking space. The mill has a ramped entrance but the ground floor has steps (ramp available). Throughout the mill there are many stairs with handrail to other floors, including some which are quite steep. Viewing platform and internal mirrors enable visitors to see most of upper floors. The grounds contain hard gravel paths with some slopes.
- Meeting point
Park at White Mill, Sturminster Marshall, Wimborne Minster, Dorset, BH21 4BX
- What to bring and wear
The mill and grounds have uneven surfaces and steps, and after heavy rainfall, the grounds can be wet and slippery. We recommend sensible shoes appropriate for the weather conditions.
