Mediterranean Marvels

Discover Dunster’s Mediterranean Marvels this June, with a vibrant trail of sub‑tropical planting and spectacular summer colour.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Experience a touch of the Mediterranean at Dunster Castle Gardens this June.

Follow a self‑guided trail through our Mediterranean Marvels collection, where sun‑loving, sub‑tropical plants bring rich colour, texture and fragrance to the garden.

Along the way, you’ll encounter rare and unusual species seldom seen in the UK, all thriving thanks to Dunster’s unique Mediterranean microclimate.

A highlight of the trail is the striking lily displays, offering a truly memorable moment in the garden.

This extraordinary collection has its roots in the passion of Alys Luttrell, a keen plant enthusiast who introduced species from across the world to Dunster. Her detailed diaries allow us to trace the history of the garden and identify plants that continue to flourish here today, connecting past and present through the landscape.

For those looking to explore further, join our ‘Mediterranean Mile’ guided tour, running every Tuesday and Thursday in June at 1pm. Led by a member of our knowledgeable garden team, this 45‑minute tour showcases highlights of the collection, sharing expert insight into the plants, their care, and the special conditions that help them thrive. Tours are free, but booking is essential. Book tickets on our website.

Whether you choose to wander at your own pace or join a guided tour, discover a garden shaped by history, climate and a love of plants.
