Historic Re-enactment: Multi-Period Weekend

Taunton Garrison return to Dunster Castle with a living history camp, including authentic costumes, military drills, interactive displays and live weapons demonstrations.

Travel through 2,000 years of history as members of Taunton Garrison bring the past to life around the castle grounds. Meet Roman soldiers, Viking warriors, Medieval knights, Civil War defenders and the famous 95th Rifles, and discover the people, stories and battles that shaped Dunster and the surrounding area.

Enjoy immersive encampments, authentic costumes, military drills, weapons demonstrations, cannon fire and interactive displays as reenactors showcase how people lived, worked and fought through the centuries. A fascinating family-friendly weekend packed with history, heritage and action not to be missed.

Please note that weapons demonstrations will include loud noises that may not be suitable for some visitors and dogs.

The basics

Accessibility

Green Court is wheelchair and pushchair accessible. Trampers are available to hire for the morning or afternoon. Courtesy bus with wheelchair lift also available to bring visitors up to Green Court. Please note that the musket demonstrations will include loud noises that may not be suitable for some visitors and dogs. A schedule of firing will be available.
