Cadw Open Doors 2026 at Powis Castle and Garden

This September, we're joining more than 200 of Wales’ historic sites, landmarks and hidden gems to offer visitors free entry.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

On Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, visitors can enjoy free entry to Powis Castle and Garden's world-famous Garden and Clive Museum as part of Cadw Open Doors, alongside a range of activities and offers from fellow Visit Welshpool attractions.

Open Doors is Wales' annual contribution to the European Heritage Days initiative, organised and funded by Cadw. The event invites heritage organisations, local authorities, private owners and community groups across Wales to offer free access, activities and events, encouraging people to discover the country's remarkable historic places.

Several Visit Welshpool attractions across the town will be opening their doors or offering special activities throughout the weekend, making it a great opportunity to explore everything Welshpool has to offer.

Participating venues and activities include: • Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway – discounted rail tickets, talks in the Display Shed at Welshpool Raven Square Station at 11am and 2pm on both days, plus guided walking tours of the old town section of the railway line at 11.30am and 2.30pm on both days • Y Lanfa (Museum & Library) – open both days with a temporary exhibition on display • Welshpool Town Hall – explore the Assembly Chamber, Court Room and cells, Council Chamber and Judges' Retiring Room • Free parking at Church Street car park on both days
