1. Family favourite…

Relax on the grassy avenue in front of the Monument to Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (known as the Sun Monument). You’ll be in easy reach of the visitor facilities in the Victorian Conservatory and half way up to our crowning glory, Stainborough Castle.

2. Hamper hike…

If you’re feeling energetic, why not walk all the way up to Stainborough Castle and set up your picnic inside the walls? You’ll feel a world away from everything, while the kids challenge each other to a duel with our wooden swords available at the castle.

3. Heavy hampers…

If you don’t want to walk far, head to the dedicated picnic area near the Long Barn. It’s only a short walk from the car park and a stone’s throw from the playground.

4. Peace and quiet…

There are plenty of idyllic spots where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and natural beauty of Wentworth Castle Gardens. Take a walk around the parkland to find a quieter place.

5. Shady spots…

Lady Lucy’s Walk offers lots of sheltered spots to spread your picnic blanket and dine with nature in the great outdoors.

If you don’t fancy making your own picnic, our Long Barn café has a range of home-made takeaway options. So, you can pick up a sandwich or salad and search out the sunshine – or just supplement your homemade hamper with a freshly made coffee or ice-cream.
