Hopefully this will answer some of your questions about the Book Festival.
I’ve booked my session ticket, do I also need to book a day ticket? Yes, everyone needs a day ticket for castle entry, as well as session tickets if you wish to attend the author/illustrator workshops. Your day ticket gives you access to the whole castle and a wide range of free activities.
How much are the tickets? All tickets as £5, for adults and children. Under 3s sitting on knees are free.
I’m a National Trust Member, do I need a ticket? Everyone needs a ticket to attend the Book Festival as membership only gives you access during normal opening hours.
Can I just pay on the day? No sorry, advance booking is essential. Event tickets will not be available on the day.
Is there a Booking telephone number? This event is online booking only
Ticket collection: Once you have booked you can print your ticket at home. Tickets won’t be available to collect from the castle, and there will be no facilities for printing.
Ticket collection requirements: Please bring your printed day ticket for access to the festival and your ticket(s) for your author event(s).
How suitable is the event for children: This is a children’s Book Festival so all events are suitable for children! The ages stated in the event list is a guide only. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Where to meet: When you arrive, go to the main entrance of Wray Castle and our festival team will direct you to your event.
What shall I bring/ wear? The castle can sometimes be a little chilly in early Spring and there are also lovely grounds you can explore after your event, so do wrap up warm.
Where will the events take place? Author events take place in different rooms within the castle. There are also festival activities throughout the castle for visitors to the festival to enjoy.
What catering facilities are available over the Festival weekend? Snacks and refreshments will be available to purchase from the castle. You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat in the grounds if you wish. Some outdoor seating and picnic benches are available. Toilets available.
What’s the accessibility? Ground floor, refreshments and shop are accessible by wheelchair users. Wheelchair accessible toilet. Some events take place upstairs so please contact us regarding any access needs.
Will the shop be open during the festival/ Can I buy the authors books? The festival shop will be open throughout the festival with books from all authors and signings will take place after each author/illustrator session.
What time does the castle open/ close? The castle and the festival activities will be open to enjoy from 9.30am to 16.30pm.
