May half-term at Bateman's

The garden is teeming with flowers and the trees on the estate are lush and green. May half-term is a great time to get outdoors, enjoy the spring sunshine and follow our trail.

Fun for the family

This half-term we've planned a trial that will get the kids out and about to enjoy the garden at Bateman's.

The infamous local gang of smugglers, The Hawkhurst Gang, have been spotted lurking about in the garden at Bateman's. What have they been up to?

Claim your map from our visitor reception and go on the hunt for clues. Once you've solved the mystery, there'll be a reward waiting for you. So hurry along and help us find out what's been going on before the end of the half-term holidays.

  • Trail runs from Fri 26 May to Sun 4 June
  • Daily from 11am to 4pm
  • £1.50 per trail, with reward at the end
  • Suitable for family groups and children aged 5-12.

Dogs on short leads are welcome in the gardens, with the exception of the Mulberry garden where we grow vegetables. We regret that dogs are not permitted in the house, tea room or shop unless they are assistance dogs.

Enjoy a walk with the family including the dog

There are several walks in the wider Bateman's estate, following gentle routes that take about an hour to an hour and a half to complete.

These walks are suitable for all the family and a great way to exercise your canine friend. Once out in the wider estate, we are happy for you to lengthened your dog's lead, but please don't let them off the lead. The only exception to this is if you are approached by cattle and deem it necessary to let the dog off for your safety.

Please observe good countryside practice and keep to the footpaths, take your litter home and don't let your dog worry any animals.

Details of our walks are available at visitor reception.
