Autumnal fungi forays
Autumn is a wonderful time of year. The fruits are falling from the trees, the leaves are changing their colour and countless species of fungi are emerging.
From now until it gets cold and frosty we should get a good show of fungi. Eighty two species were recorded last year on the island, some of which include the big parasol mushrooms, earthballs and boletus of various types, even the occasional stinkhorn.
Join one of our two guided fungi forays on Saturday 29 September and Saturday 13 October and enjoy an early morning boat ride before the island opens and meet the specialists from the Dorset Fungus Group. They will take you on a walk around the island to discover the different fungi that we have here. Afterwards you can enjoy mushrooms on toast and a cup of tea in the cafe.
