The Storybook Play Den, located just beyond the Maze and Water Garden, offers a fantastic location to let young imaginations run wild.
Carved wooden models of favourite storybook characters fill the Play Den, including Peter Pan, Captain Hook and his arch enemy the ever-hungry crocodile.
Designed with children under eight in mind, our wonderland includes:
A 'Charlotte's Web'-inspired climbing net
A 'Wind in the Willows' style boat
A turreted house with slide, based on the famous 'Magic Tree House' stories
A stepping stone trail
A welcome face
Old Brown from Beatrix Potter's 'The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin' sits at the entrance to the Play Den welcoming families as they arrive. Old Brown has replaced a life-sized model of Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, who sadly 'retired' in 2013 after deteriorating beyond repair.
Take a break
The Doll's House Café next door, overlooks the Play Den and serves warming cups of coffee and delicious snacks - the perfect opportunity to relax while your children play.
A wild woodland trail with a difference…around every corner you’ll find a new place to play and test your climbing, balancing and den building skills. Look out for signs to the Woodland Play Trail on your right after you have turned onto Green Drive.
