Visitor route diversion in Cliveden's Water Garden
Due to restoration works taking place in the Water Garden, from Wednesday, 11th March 2020, the path to Green Drive will be diverted around the ponds.
You will still be able to walk around the Water Garden on the diverted path and for this limited time, dogs on leads are also welcome to follow this route.
Contractors will be working in the Water Garden over the next few weeks to de-silt the two small canals. We are looking to establish how much silt is lying at the bottom of the canals to inform our further pond repair work scheduled for later in the year.
In the blocked off areas, our gardens team will be crossing Green Drive Path at regular intervals to remove the silt from the pond, and our Senior Gardener will be installing steel edging along the path.
The silt in the pond is likely to be highly fertile, so we plan to add this to surrounding borders at a later date. Any fish from the canal will be moved into the larger ponds before the work starts to ensure they are safe to swim freely.
If there are any cracks in the concrete base of the pond, the team will fix them as they go to prevent future leaks. By doing these important works, we will keep this special garden for everyone, forever.
