Letter writing at Clouds Hill

A visitor writing a letter on his knee in the garden

T E Lawrence was an avid letter writer throughout his life, and particularly when he was at Clouds Hill. Come along and write your own letter here using special paper and envelopes, similar to those used by Lawrence himself.

Lawrence was a big fan of writing letters, but now most of us are more likely to use email, Facebook and other 'immediate' forms of communication instead.

You can rediscover this lost art and write your own letter at Clouds Hill, using special writing paper which recreates the letterhead Lawrence himself used.

The matching envelope bears a facsimile of one of the postage stamps Lawrence designed during the First World War, when he was helping with the Arab Revolt against Turkish rule. He passionately wanted the Arabs to be free and to run their own nations and institutions, including the mail service.
