Gardener, Colby Woodland Garden
Meet Christine, one of our gardeners at Colby Woodland Garden as she shares top tips for your visit and an insight into her role.
What does your role involve?
I have responsibilities for the development and maintenance of the walled garden and any formal beds which surround it; I do this with the help of a great team of volunteers.
What do you enjoy about working for the National Trust?
The National Trust encourages staff to be innovative and take responsibility for their own areas of work, for me this has included the introduction and development of a propagation programme. The plants which are propagated are either sold to our visitors or used on the Colby Estate.
Do you have a favourite place in Pembrokeshire?
There are so many beautiful places in Pembrokeshire; it’s difficult to pick a favourite. The unspoilt areas of North Pembrokeshire and the Preseli Hills are lovely as is the whole coastline, but I can honestly say Colby is one of my favourite places.
What are your top 3 things to see and do at Colby Woodland Garden?
- Peace and quiet – Enjoy the tranquillity of Colby, even when it's busy it still has a very peaceful feel about it.
- Ever-changing views – Enjoy the view from the steps of the gazebo in the walled garden; this view overlooks the walled garden with the west wood beyond. It’s a view that is ever changing and is a particular favourite of mine.
- Walks – Enjoy the many walks throughout Colby, try a new one whenever you visit, it's surprising how many varied walks there are to suit all abilities
