Learning at Cragside

Children sitting on a tree stump beside the tree sculpture known as Douglas

We offer a range of learning experiences and activities. Discover how we can excite, encourage and engage your group...

Why come here?

  • The opportunity to explore family living rooms and servants' areas.
  • Our local hero, Lord Armstrong.
  • Examples of 19th-century technology, including Armstrong's original hydro-electric and hydraulic machinery.
  • For our streams, lakes, views, woodland walks, the Formal Garden, adventure play area, the trim trail and labyrinth.
We're open for school groups to visit the House from March to October and the grounds from March to December. We have plenty of outdoor space for picnics; there's a room in the Visitor Centre for less clement weather. All activities have cross-curricula links.
We welcome groups of all sizes, with limits for some activities - please ask our Learning Officer Carole to help you plan your day, with lunch times and toilet visits built in. Learning visits must be booked in advance. Please call Carole on 01669 622003 or drop her an email.
Please note: The grounds have steep footpaths, uneven ground and many steps. Adults and children should wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.
