Visiting Emmetts Garden: What to expect

A view through the spring blooms to the fountain at Emmetts Garden, a National Trust property in Kent

We've reopened our gardens at Emmetts Garden and we're looking forward to welcoming you back. Please bring a face covering to enter the café, toilets and visitor centre, unless you are exempt.

Visitor centre

We have now reopened our Visitor Centre here at Chartwell to welcome you back in. Visits must be pre-booked in advance (with all details on how to do this further down this page) and we ask you to please arrive in your time-slot to help us keep everyone safe. If you arrive early, you may be asked to return at your appointed time. If you arrive late, we unfortunately cannot guarantee your entry.

NT Members - on arrival, we'll ask at least one member of your group to enter the Visitor Centre with a face covering on (unless you are exempt), to scan your membership cards. You may wish to nominate one person who can scan everyone's cards at once. You will then be able to rejoin your group by the exit doors along our one way route, which helps us keep everyone safe.

To help with social distancing we have introduced a one-way system around the garden. Please look out for signs on arrival, as things may be different to the last time you visited us.

The garden is open daily between 9am and 5pm, with the last entry slot between 4.30pm and 5pm. The carpark gates close at 5.30pm.

Please be aware that only limited takeaway refreshments will be available from the Tea Room.

Pick up a guidebook

Don't forget to pick up a guidebook from the Visitor Centre or shop on your arrival to guide you on your visit! From reading the history to helping identify what's growing and where, its a fantastic way to learn all about Emmetts Garden as well as a memento to take home too.

Book a ticket

Please book your parking/tickets before you visit. Members can book for free, while non-members will need to pay when booking. Where space is available on weekdays, pre-booking may not always be necessary, however if you do not book we cannot guarantee admission.

When you book your visit, you will need to choose a 30-minute arrival time for the day you wish to visit. Please book one ticket per person, except for children aged 5 and under as they don’t need a ticket.

New booking slots are released on a Friday for visits the following week starting on Monday.

The timeslot that you choose is for your arrival time only. Please ensure that you arrive at the property and enter the garden within your 30-minute time slot. If you are more than 10 minutes late, we may not be able to guarantee your entry.

Members can book a ticket for free, but please bring your membership card with you on the day. Non-members will need to pay online in advance through the booking system. The Essential Companion card continues to be in operation allowing people to bring one or two carers with them, free of charge. Carers are able to attend without a booking - only those being cared for need a booking.

Please read through our Frequently Asked Questions below, if you require further information please email us at emmetts@nationaltrust.org.uk.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.
