Women on the Tin Coast: The Double Shift
As part of the National Trust's Women and Power programme in 2018, we are focusing on the women that worked on the Tin Coast at the height of Cornish mining.
Known as Bal Maidens, the women that worked on the Tin Coast were strong, worked long hours, and would go home and complete their second shift doing the chores for their family.
If you're visiting the Tin Coast this year look out for:
- A brand new display on Bal Maidens in West Penwith at Levant
- Bal Maidens wandering round Levant on selected dates
- Family trails at Botallack, Cape Cornwall and Levant during the school holidays
- A spring and autumn talk from Bal Maidens historian Lynne Mayers
Keep checking back on the Tin Coast for dates and more information, available in late February.
