The Raining Cloud by Foster Carter
The design of the fourth new installation to be built was selected from over 1,800 competition entries as part of a competition with North Yorkshire Society of Architects. The winner, Foster Carter, designed The Raining Cloud, which visitors can find by Studley Royal.
Our fourth installation has been designed by 11 year old Foster Carter, a student whose imaginative design was selected from over 1800 competition entries. Visitors will be able to explore his design, inspired by the Yorkshire weather, at Silver Pond near the Studley Royal entrance.
Foster won a competition to design the fourth folly which was run in partnership with North Yorkshire Society of Architects. Foster is a pupil at Le Cateau Primary School, Catterick Garrison near York, one of over 50 schools which entered, taking part in workshops with local architects to create their idea of a contemporary folly.
Foster’s design, ‘The Raining Cloud’, uses a 4.2m wood frame to hold up a ‘cloud’ and will be situated at Silver Pond in the water garden. This fourth installation will launch alongside the others on 28 April.
