Halloween fun at Gibside

Pumpkins in a row

Gather your little (and big) monsters for some Halloween fun at Gibside. We've got a self-led trail running throughout the holidays perfect for the whole family.

Every day of October half term you can take part in the pumpkin trail.

From Saturday 20 October to Sunday 4 November, pick up a pumpkin trail sheet from visitor reception and follow the arrows.

There's no need to book, when you arrive head to visitor reception and pick up your trail sheet.

Once you get started, you'll read all about the evil wizard. But don't be scared, we need you to be brave to help break the spell.

As you make your way around, be on the lookout for six haunted huts. Inside each one there'll be a scary pumpkin and will give you what you need to complete your sheet.

The trail will take you through the west woods to Strawberry Castle play area - perfect for kids of all ages and for some outdoor fun.

Once you've finished, visit the shop to collect your well-deserved sticker. Good luck!

Afterwards, you can opt for a yummy pumpkin spiced latte in the cafe.... perhaps before giving us a helping hand on the avenue.

Route is roughly 1km and wheelchair and buggy accessible however, terrain varies. Free for National Trust members or normal admission charges apply.

Gibside's Avenue in autumn

Get involved this autumn

The iconic avenue is framed by a blend of of oaks, sycamores and limes, making it extremely picturesque, especially in autumn. While the fallen leaves offer lots of fun, if left and walked into the ground it can cause a lot of damage. So this year, there'll be rakes, barrows and gloves so that you can get involved with our conservation work too. And have some fun of course.
