Come along to the Greenway fête

On Saturday 14 September there will be a celebration of the anniversary of Agatha Christie's birthday at her holiday home, Greenway. In the style of 'Dead Man's Folly' the mystery Agatha set at Greenway, there will be a 1950s fête in the Walled Garden from 11am-4pm, complete with traditional games and stalls and even a fun dog show.

Inspired by 'Dead Man's Folly'

Nasse House, the setting for 'Dead Man's Folly' was inspired by Greenway; the house, garden, Boathouse and surrounding countryside feature in the story from the 1950s. The murder mystery centres around a fête being held in the garden, complete with a fortune teller and a staged murder hunt.

Recreating the fête

At the Greenway fête, traditional fête stalls and activities will be in place in honour of the 1950s setting, from a coconut shy to a plant stall, cake and pre-loved goods stall, to games like ball in a bucket. A treasure hunt trail will be paying homage to the story's staged murder hunt and there will even be a fun dog show.

There will be a small charge at the stalls: the money raised will be helping to care for Greenway for ever, for everyone. Normal admission prices to Greenway apply.

Fun dog show

Throughout the day there will be fun competitions for your four-legged friends to enter. Each competition costs £2, and the winners will be chosen by special guest judges from Blue Cross animal charity. A fancy rosette will be handed out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Why not bring your dog along for a bit of light-hearted competition? The categories will be:

  • 11.30am - Best dressed pooch
  • 12pm noon - Best tricks
  • 12.30pm - Golden oldie
  • 2.30pm - Best behaved puppy
  • 3.30pm - Dog just like owner

Please remember to keep dogs on short leads at all times, and to pick up any mess your dog makes and dispose of it in the bins provided.
