Sitting in the heart of the Hardwick Hall estate, with convenient access to visitor facilities, is this former stableyard building. In contrast to its modest, linear exterior, elegantly finished décor runs throughout the three-bedroom house. It dates back to the 16th-century where the formidable ‘Bess of Hardwick’ would have resided close by in the main house.
Step right out onto the estate from your front door and enjoy a lazy breakfast at the Great Barn Restaurant. Afterwards, explore the grounds of the estate, with its garden, trails and parkland, before discovering Hardwick Hall itself. This spectacular Elizabethan house was built by 'Bess of Hardwick', and treasured by her descendants, the Dukes of Devonshire. It has a collection of the finest 16th- and 17th-century needlework, furniture and original portraits.
You have free entry to all National Trust places during your stay. Kedleston Hall, desgined by Robert Adam and with opulent interiors, is just a 15-minute drive away, and Clumber Park is closer to half an hour. It has a more than 3,800 acres of parkland, heath and woods to explore, as well as a Heritage Hub, Discovery Centre, garden and places to eat and shop. You can reach the Peak District in about half an hour.
